For a stopover you usually want three things: easy arrival, good sleep and without hassle again. Ibis Budget Ulm scores strongly at first. When sleeping mostly the air conditioning soot threw . or rather: heat . . in the food.
Well accessible and close to the city
The location is one of the biggest advantages. The hotel is easily accessible by car and is close enough to the center of Ulm to reach the city easily. That makes it a convenient base for a short stop or one night during a longer drive.
There is a parking garage, but there our combination ran into a literally low ceiling. With a high car and roof case we arrived at about 2,10 meters; Just too high for the garage. That's why we had to park in the street. Fortunately that felt safe and did not cause any problems, but with a roof case this is something to take into account in advance.
As a stopover hotel, a room does not have to be large. The chance of a good night's sleep preferably.

With five people you need two rooms
We were with a family of five. Since there are no rooms in which you can stay with five of us, we had to book two rooms. That's something to take into account when you stay here as a larger family. Fortunately, the hotel had ensured that our rooms were close together. That may sound self-evident, but it is far from everywhere and this they had just arranged well.
The price made up for a lot. Families get a discount when they book two rooms and therefore we lost € 105 for one night in total. For five people and two rooms that is just a good price. Fair is fair: For that amount, you can't expect someone to arrive with an ice-cold towel and a pillow menu.
Small, clean and well dated
Our rooms had a double bed with a bunk bed above it. A smart, space-saving layout, although the rooms remain small. The decor is minimal and clear on age. Do not expect a cozy sitting area, seas of storage space or design that you spontaneously want to base your living room on.
The beds were good. Not super hard, but certainly not very soft: for most people probably a pleasant middle way. The pillow was nice and was soft rather than firm. If you like a low and soft kiss, this could make you very happy.
The sink is small and is in the room. You don't really have a closed bathroom, which gives little privacy and makes it all listener. The shower itself got nice and warm and there was shampoo. The room was also clean. That was also true for the lobby and the rest of the hotel: all somewhat dated, but neatly kept.
The AC made us sweat.
The biggest flaw was air conditioning. It worked very badly, keeping it warm in the room. Especially in August that is not a detail, but something that directly affects your sleep. On the positive side, the hotel itself was quiet. No door marathon in the hallway and no traffic concert next to the bed.
We liked this.
- €105 for five persons and two rooms
- Family discount when booking two rooms
- Our rooms were neatly close together.
- Good beds and soft pillows
- Well accessible and close to the center
- Clean and quiet in the hotel
- Hot shower and shampoo present
This could be better.
- No room for a family of five
- Rooms are small and outdated
- Air conditioning worked very badly
- Small sink is in the room
- Not a real, enclosed bathroom and therefore noisy
- Room is very minimally equipped
- Garage too low for our car with roof case of 2,10 meters
Good for practical. Less for comfort.
Ibis Budget Ulm is especially suitable as a simple stopover: the location is good, the hotel is clean and it was quiet. For €105 we got as family of five two rooms that were also close together. That's a strong price and so you have to keep expectations fair. The small, dated rooms, open washbasin and especially the poorly functioning air conditioning do draw the judgment down. For one night to do; At summer temperatures, we would first check if cooling has been tackled.
